Inqblu

Avatars

This is a quarterly diary of photos, stories and comment. ‘Inqblu’ is a development of my first avatar ‘xubaizhai’, progressing through ‘whiteinkwell’, and the ‘whitepage’. French variations ‘calame’ (reed pen) and ‘calepin’ (notebook) have also taken my fancy over the years (‘carnet’ being a little obvious). So the inqblu.space pleases me: the empty white space of xubai and the space of zhai (studio, gallery) is just right – xubaizhai: 徐白斋. Inqblu is blue ink and reminiscent of Parker Quink (quick ink). Blue-black was my favourite ink – blue was too bright and black – well …

Note: The calligraphic plaque xubaizhai by Yi Bingshou is on the second floor of the HK Museum of Art which houses Low Chuck-tiew’s collection of calligraphy, in a gallery named after his most treasured item. The gallery is open again after several years of renovation.

The photo above is looking over Kandy Lake, Sri Lanka. The town is in the distance and as you wander back you will pass the Temple of the Tooth containing the Buddha’s relic. Further on Queen’s Hotel on the right and, for a cup of tea (dust number 1), there is the Whitehouse Cafe.
